Do YOU walk the walk?
If you don’t, you should! Walking and biking regularly are great ways to stay healthy.
Here’s what can happen when kids DON’T walk or bike enough:
- Obesity (extreme fatness) is becoming very common among kids
- More kids are getting Type 2 diabetes—a serious disease that only grown-ups used to worry about
- Obesity causes kids lots of health problems, like liver disease, deformed bones, and asthma (which makes it hard to breathe!)
- Obesity can cause heart disease—even in kids!
- Overweight kids have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight grown-ups
But if you DO walk and bike to school each day:
- You’ll probably lose weight or stay thin
- You’ll sleep better at night and feel healthier all day long
- You’ll find it easier to concentrate at school
- You’ll have more energy to play with your friends
- You’ll make lots of new friends on the route
Talk to your parents about how important it is for you to walk or bike to school every day. Even if you live far away from school, your folks can help you figure out a way to walk or bike safely.
